The Finnish Association of Speech Therapists

The Finnish Association of Speech Therapists  (FAST) was founded in 1966 with the mission to promote the professional, educational and work related interests of speech therapists. A speech therapist certified in Finland or other Scandinavian country may become a member in FAST.

FAST is a member of AKAVA, the Confederation of Unions for Academic Professionals in Finland. AKAVA is a trade union confederation for those with university, professional or other high-level education. AKAVA represents the interests of altogether 461.000 Finnish professional and managerial staff. AKAVA has 31 affiliates organised on the basis of profession or degree.

The office of FAST is situated in the main office building of AKAVA in Helsinki. The office employs four persons on a permanent basis.

* engages in research and information
* advises its members in matters related to wages and work, and negotiates with employers
* owns the publishing company Puheterapeuttien Kustannus Oy which organises professional continuing education and publishes speech therapy material
* insures against unemployment
* insures against civil cases arising from employment relationship
* insures self-employed therapists against treatment injury
* grants training and research awards
* publishes a professional journal Puheterapeutti
* provides economic benefits through bank agreements
* negotiates discounts for holidays abroad, hotel holidays in Finland and cruises
* negotiates favourable group insurances

The Finnish Association of Speech Therapists has been a member of CPLOL since 1995.
